I began training as a counsellor, initially starting with Parentline, offering support to parents over the telephone. I have been working with Relate since 1996 and as an independent counsellor since 2004 alongside working under their lisenced scheme.

I have twenty years experience as a residential worker, working in a special needs unit which was attached to a school. The children were aged 11+ and had a range of social, educational and emotional needs which manifested through challenging behaviour, many having a statement of special needs or being diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum.

I feel I have a good understanding of the pressures on couples, families and individuals trying to cope with the busy pace of life and pressures it puts upon us. You will find me to be a supportive, empathic counsellor who will help you to explore and understand the place you are in, and to make some informed choices for your future which are relevant to you and your relationships.

What I Offer:
I offer short or longer term work with individuals, couples, families and young people. Issues I regularly work with are around communication, anxiety, stress, depression, self esteem, affairs, bereavement and difficulty/loss of intimacy. Your difficulties may have surfaced around times of pressure and change in your life, sometimes we need to take some time to feel like we can take back some control around choices, rather than feel that life is in control of us.

I find that being able to talk about what is happening and has happened, helps us to put some perspective in place, with a view to making future choices and change that may make life more manageable and hopefully enjoyable.

Initial contact
You may find it useful to contact me by telephone or email to have a brief discussion about whether counselling is right for you. I understand that this may have taken you some time to make this decision. You may be anxious or stressed about your situation and not know what to expect, or how counselling could help. I find that it can be very reassuring to hear someone real at the end of the telephone supporting you making some future choices for yourself. I will ask for your contact details at this point and give you my full address if we choose to make an appointment for an initial meeting.
Initial Meeting
This gives us a chance to meet in person and a place for you to speak freely and confidentially about your situation. You will be able to ask me any questions and I will be able to explain about confidentiality and how any on-going sessions are arranged, should we chose to continue working together. During this session we will be able to discuss a possible agenda for future sessions and any expectations of the work. You do not have to make a decision about any on-going work in the session, I appreciate you may want some time to think about things or discuss with other family members. You can contact me at a later date once you have made your decision.
Supervision
I regularly have supervision as part of my professional licence.

Confidentiality
Whatever we discuss in your consultation or counselling is confidential, unless I believe that you or a third party is at risk.

I operate a pre-payment system where you will be asked to confirm with payment your attendance at the session 2 full working days prior to our appointment.

1. Payment Methods
   1. If you wish to pay by cash please pay me direct usually in the session for the following week.
2. 2. Cheques are made payable to myself Andrea Wilson three full working days in advance of appointment.
3. 3. If you wish to pay by card, you will need to ring Relate central office on 0300 100 1234 where I have an on-line diary and appointments can be paid for given details of the date and time.

Please make an appointment before making any payment.

Cancellations
If you wish to re-arrange or cancel an appointment then the same two full working days notice is required. Payments will either be re-funded or carried forward to the following session.
